Lake Watoga

My husband, Bailey and I just returned from a week long vacation at a cabin at Watoga State Park in West Virginia.

Lake Watoga

It was divine...no cell phone coverage, no radio or tv, no internet, just beautiful scenery, quiet and time to relax. We loved it enough that we will definitely go back again and again.

As I mentioned before, West Virginia is my home...my husband's too. When we married, we could hardly wait to get out of there and on to the rest of our lives. We did and we saw lots of places and lived in a bunch too. Funny though, West Virginia looks and feels just right at this point in our lives. Being off the grid was great. Forget about checking your voice mail and your e-mail, there is no way to do that. TV didn't click on in the evening for us or for anyone else up there. The quiet was pleasant.

If you ever wonder what West Virginia is like, try a stay at one of the amazing state parks they have to offer. The rates are reasonable and the cabin we stayed in was spacious enough for two. There are about 40 other cabins for rent too. Some sleep four and others as many as 8.

The weather was perfect for the first four days and then, by afternoon of day four, it began to rain. It rained all night, all the next day and rained as we packed up to leave the following morning. Good thing we brought my ipod, spinning wheel, cameras, knitting, books and other low tech things for amusement.

Since southern West Virginia has been suffering through a drought, that rain was much appreciated. In fact, by the time we left, the stream across from the cabin, which had been dry, was bubbling along at a brisk pace.

Beautiful weather and then the rain rolled in.
